Sands China Partners with GMTCM to Promote Big Health Tourism in Macau and Hengqin
Las Vegas Sands’ Macau-facing subsidiary, Sands China, has recently announced a strategic partnership with Guangdong-Macau Traditional Chinese Medicine Technology Industrial Park Development (GMTCM) to promote Big Health tourism in Macau and Hengqin. This collaboration aims to leverage Macau’s position as a tourism hub to attract both domestic and international visitors interested in health and wellness.
A Landmark Agreement for Health Tourism
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between Sands China and GMTCM was signed at the Traditional Chinese Medicine Science and Technology Industrial Park of Cooperation Between Guangdong and Macau in Hengqin. This agreement marks Sands China as the first concessionaire to join forces with GMTCM in promoting Big Health tourism in the region.
Under the terms of the MoU, the two provinces will work together to foster collaboration and promote Macau as a destination that combines Eastern and Western health practices. The partnership aims to attract investments to Macau and create opportunities for integrating Big Health tourism with the existing tourism offerings in Macau and Hengqin.
New Opportunities for Collaboration
As part of the agreement, Sands China and GMTCM will support local health firms and introduce new Big Health tourism facilities and products at Sands China’s integrated resorts. This collaboration will also pave the way for organizing new Meetings, Incentives, Conferences, and Exhibitions (MICE) events that focus on health and wellness.
Moreover, GMTCM will provide premium health management and medical services for tourists and residents in Macau and Hengqin, enhancing the overall healthcare offerings in the region.
Diversifying Macau’s Economy
This partnership aligns with Macau’s efforts to diversify its economy beyond its reliance on the casino industry. The region has been actively seeking investments in non-gambling tourism, cultural initiatives, and technological advancements. By promoting Big Health tourism, Sands China and GMTCM are contributing to Macau’s goal of becoming a well-rounded tourist destination.
Strengthening Macau’s Role as a Global Tourism Hub
Grant Chum, CEO and executive director of Sands China, expressed his excitement about the collaboration with GMTCM, highlighting the importance of promoting Big Health tourism in Macau and Hengqin.
