Reno’s Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) Embarks on $1 Billion Redevelopment Project
In a groundbreaking announcement in September 2023, the Grand Sierra Resort (GSR) revealed its ambitious plans for a historic $1 billion investment in Reno. This massive redevelopment project includes the construction of a new arena that will serve as the home for the University of Nevada Men’s Basketball team, the Wolf Pack, among other exciting amenities.
Reno Planning Commission Approves Conditional Use Permit
The latest development in this transformative project is the recent unanimous approval of a conditional use permit for the proposed arena by the Reno Planning Commission. Despite concerns about potential traffic and congestion issues in the area, commissioners ultimately decided to grant approval, marking a significant milestone in the progress of the $1 billion investment.
The state-of-the-art arena is set to accommodate approximately 10,000 seats and will become the new venue for the Wolf Pack men’s basketball team. The height of the multipurpose arena, standing at 118 feet, required special approval from GSR.

The redeveloped Grand Sierra Resort is scheduled to open its doors in the fall of 2027, creating over 5,000 temporary jobs during the construction phase.
